Rainbow Six: Patriots

Well, color me surprised.  I thought this new video to surface would have drawn more attention by now.  It's truly a strange world to live in where video games are not immediately attacked by sensationalist media outlets when they feature controversial material.

I'm not sure if everyone has seen this yet or not, so I'll share.  See you after the jump:

I like where this is going.  I think a lot of developers still hold the old fears of persecution for even the slightest controversial element in their games, but if the medium wants to tell stories that can impact people's lives they need to move on.  That era died when the Supreme Court said it was okay to kill people in video games.  I applaud Ubisoft for this.  Heavy decisions like the ones the team makes at the end of the trailer are the kind of moral choices that will drag gaming into the adult world.

What the interesting take away here is how close to reality this game strikes.  With two brand new radical groups forming on opposite sides of the political spectrum, the boiler plate is ready for something like another America Terrorist to step forward and really get them riled up.  This game looks like it will be the first piece of media to broach the subject and explore where we could be headed as a nation.  Here's hoping for some true intellectual debate caused by a video game, of all things.

You started this war!
